Recipient
of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Medal of Honours
Dunwell's
Managing Director, Mr Daniel M. Cheng, was awarded the Medal
of Honour for his valuable contribution to the local environmental
industry. The Honours presentation ceremony was held on October
27. Mr. Daniel M. Cheng received the Medal of Honour from
the Chief Executive, Mr. Donald Tsang at the Guest House,
Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). This year
also marked the 10th anniversary of the establishment of HKSAR,
giving the award an additional piece of commemoratory.
Since
returning from US during the early 80's, Mr. Cheng has already
aware the importance of environmental protection to Hong Kong
and has been has actively promoting the environmentally friendly
concept to the public through different channels, such as
conferences, seminars, radio and television programs. In 1993,
Mr. Cheng started a new stage of his career by investing on
a used oil recycling facility in Hong Kong, servicing the
city by properly treating this potential severe chemical pollutant.
The facility was originally built by an Australian Group in
1990 which went bankrupted in 2 years. Mr. Cheng successfully
transformed the company from a used oil recycling company
to a one-stop environmental technology provider, specialized
in water and wastewater treatment and reuse as well as used
oil recycling.
With
continuous effort in pursuing better quality and environmental
protection, Mr. Cheng lead his company’s research team and
developed the first vibrating membrane used oil recycling
technology – VMAT. The technology received the Institution
of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) Environment Award in London,
UK; the Bronze Prize from the Wall Street Journal Asia - Asian
Innovation Awards 2006 in Singapore; and the Grand Award of
the 2005 Hong Kong Award for the Industry: Machinery and Equipment
Design. Mr. Cheng was also selected as winner of The Young
Industrialist Awards of Hong Kong 1995, Innovative Entrepreneur
of 1996 and Hong Kong Ten Outstanding Industrial Engineers
Award in 1999.
Mr.
Cheng serves as Member of HK Central Policy Unit Panel on
the Pan-Pearl Driver Delta, Member of the Trade and Industry
Advisory Board, Assessors for the Innovation and Technology
Support Programme under Innovation and Technology Fund and
Member of Small and Medium Enterprises Committee of Hong Kong
Government. He also serves as the Deputy Chairman, the Vice-Chairman
of Sustainable Industry Council, and the Chairman of the Group
26 (Environmental Industry) of the Hong Kong Federation of
Industries, Founding President of Hong Kong Environmental
Industry Association, Director of Business Environment Council.
Mr.
Cheng was the Chairman of the Innovation and Technology Fund
(Environmental Projects) Vetting of HKSAR and the Chairman
of Board at Friends of the Earth (HK) from 2000 to 2004, Committee
Member of Nanotechnology Projects Vetting Committee of HKSAR
from 2002 to 2005, Expert Member of the Committees of the
Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation Managing Board from 2003
to 2004, also served as Member of the HKSAR Advisory Council
on the Environment from 2001 to 2002 and Board of Directors
of Applied Research Council HKSAR from 1996 to 2002.
